The game give you a shitton of tools to deal with any situation, magic shields, healing items, ranged weapons etc. In general you wont have a hard time if you dont rush without a plan.

Just to give you an idea, last time someone used Great Heavy Soul Arrow on me, I was able to load a bolt on my Arbalest (it was empty), shoot him successfully and roll away in time to avoid the attack.
